Domestic electrical installations
Whatever your requirements are and no matter how demanding, IDD Electrical Services has the experience and expertise to undertake electrical installations in all manner of domestic properties and agricultural structures.
IDD Electrical Services undertake all aspects of general domestic wiring and fault-finding.
The scope of domestic installations is rapidly changing in this day and age, and many of our customers come to us with requirements for extra power sockets or lighting points. This, together with requests to carry out full electrical installations on home extensions, annexes or outbuildings, has become a common request.
Whatever the job is, our team will work quick and hard to achieve a professional finish. We provide an initial consultation to find out the finer details of the job in hand. At this stage we can answer any question you may have.
Electrical Inspection and testing
IDD Electrical Services will provide you independent Electrical Inspection and Testing services, all in line with the requirements of BS7671 and IET Guidance Note 3 for all types of new build domestic electrical installations.
As fully qualified and accredited electrical contractor, we’re able to provide you with professional surveys and inspections of any existing installed electrical system.
During any inspection, our qualified test engineers will check the condition of your electrics against the UK standards required for the safety of electrical installations and then issue you with an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). This document was formerly known as a Periodic Inspection and Test Report (PIR).
We carry out electrical inspection and testing of domestic properties, offering a complete service with fixed price basis. Our engineers will fully explain their findings to you and offer independent advice, if you need it. We can also undertake any remedial work that may be required, and would be happy to provide a free quotation for this.
Renovating and rewiring
At worst, faulty electrics can be a serious fire hazard and can lead to injury or electrocution.
If you are thinking of buying a property more than 25 years old, it is important to check that the wiring is up to date before you buy it. Ideally, you will get an idea of what work is required and an estimate of the likely cost so that you can take this into account when assessing the project and how much to offer.
If you already own the property and you are renovating, it is important to know early on if any rewiring work will be necessary.
When is Rewiring Necessary?
- If a property has not already been rewired within the last 25 years, the chances are it will need upgrading at least in part in order to bring it up to current standards. The wiring may be potentially dangerous and may not be able to cope with the demands of modern living.
- If you plan major remodelling work that constitutes a material alteration as defined by the Building Regulations, it is likely that you will need to rewire part, if not all, of the property, including upgrading the consumer unit (fuse box).
- If you are extending your home, or converting an attic or garage, this will constitute new work and therefore all of the new wiring will have to conform to Part P: Electrical safety, and all existing wiring will have to be improved to ensure that it is able to carry the additional loads safely, it is earthed to current requirements and that cross bonding is satisfactory.
- Where you are extending or remodelling, the rest of the existing wiring does not have to be upgraded, except where upgrading is required by the energy efficiency requirements of the Building Regulations, i.e. central heating controls.
